Read More	The Altoona Herald, Altoona, IA March 26, 1931 Allen Edwards Taken Suddenly Allen Edwards who was taken to the hospital Monday died Tuesday evening. Mr. Edwards was sharpening a rolling cutter one day last week when the cutter fell striking his great toe and cutting it off. This wound was healing nicely but other troubles set in and he was found that his system was full of poison. He was given treatments but failed to over come the trouble and passed away Tuesday evening. He was a life long citizen of Polk County and had lived in this community for years where he was well known and honored. He was 66 years of age. The funeral services will be held from the Altoona Christian Church this afternoon (Thursday) at 2:30 o'clock. The Altoona Herald, Altoona, IA April 2, 1931 ALLEN EDWARDS IS LAID TO REST Allen Edwards was born in Green County, Wisconsin, May 30, 1864. He was the son of Allen and Rose Edwards. Reared in Wisconsin, he was married on the 24th of July 1887 to Dora Bell Multer of Green County. Of this union two children were born, Ray Allen and Jay Elmer. In 1893 he moved to Nebraska with his family. While residing there he lost his wife and his oldest child, Ray Allen. On January 29th, 1895 he was married to Edith Multer, and with her, in the same year, he moved to Iowa, where five children were born, of this marriage; Jesse Phillip, Flora Edith, Gladys Dora, Guy Ellis and Grace Arabel. He resided in Polk County for the last 36 years of his life. He died at the hospital in Des Moines, Iowa March 24, 1931 at the age of 66 years 9 months and 24 days. He was preceeded in death by one brother James Edwards and one sister, Mrs. Robert Kirkendoll. He is survived by his wife, one brother, Albert Edwards of Tilden, Nebraska; by three daughters, Mrs. Nathaniel Finney, Chicago, Mrs. Kenneth Patterson, Des Moines, and Grace Edwards of Altoona; by six grandchildren and many neices, nephews, cousins and a host of neighbors and friends. Funeral services were held in the Altoona Christian Church, march 26, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. E. A. Elliott, an old friend of the Edwards family conducted the funeral service. Recompense When at last the work is ended And the day at the setting of the sun, And the tired spirit homeward wended For the race, though long, is run When the Master speaks so softly To the weary, weary one-- "O though good and faithful servant Thou hast well and fairly done." Then we have no cause for sorrow For the way worn one at rest With no fears for the tomorrow. All is peace within the breast. Long and hard has been the labor, But he nobly stood the test Till at last he gladly welcomed The Reaper's Call, "Tis Time to Rest." Now he's passed within the Portal Stands within the tapered Hall Turns to becken us to follow To the Temple built for all.
