Description	:	Allen Phillip Hardt was the only child of Lydia (Ginter) and Phillip Hardt, born on Nov. 30, 1931, in Billings. He passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in the early morning hours at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Allen grew up on a farm west of Billings. He attended Shiloh School, Billings Senior High School and Rocky Mountain College. He attended RMC in the formative years, when students helped build the historic sandstone buildings to help pay for tuition. Many of these buildings are still in daily use on the college campus. Allen was an avid reader, enhancing his education through... Read More	Allen Phillip Hardt was the only child of Lydia (Ginter) and Phillip Hardt, born on Nov. 30, 1931, in Billings. He passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in the early morning hours at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Allen grew up on a farm west of Billings. He attended Shiloh School, Billings Senior High School and Rocky Mountain College. He attended RMC in the formative years, when students helped build the historic sandstone buildings to help pay for tuition. Many of these buildings are still in daily use on the college campus. Allen was an avid reader, enhancing his education through reading and research. Allen was very versed on farming, cattle, gardening, politics and football. When his father died of a heart attack in his early 40s, Allen quit college to work the family farm. After losing the lease on this farm, he started a cattle feeding operation on rented land feeding as many as 500 head of cattle. When it became necessary to move again, Allen sold his equipment at a farm sale and went to work for Midland Materials. He remained at Midland Materials, driving a cement truck, until his retirement. Allen enjoyed hunting with friends and fishing with his uncle Clarence. He took a cruise to Alaska to fish for salmon and halibut. He enjoyed watching professional sports, especially football. Gardening was his passion and his talents as a gardener are unsurpassed. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Lydia (Ginter) and Phillip Hardt; his stepfather David Wagner; a stepbrother; and all of his grandparents, aunts, and uncles. He is survived by one stepbrother, numerous cousins, and many friends. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Smith's Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th St. Interment will be at Mountview Cemetery followed by a reception at the chapel.
