Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Allison who passed peacefully on May 30, 2015. A lifelong Iowan, Allison was born on January 31, 1918 in St. Olaf, Iowa to Frank and Lulu Brewer. She was the youngest of four children. She also had two half-sisters. Her mother died when she was two years old and she was adopted by Frederick and Mary Orvis who were next door neighbors to her biological parents. The Orvis’ had two grown children at the time she was adopted. She continued to live in St. Olaf after graduating from high school and worked at the Farmer’s State Bank which her father, Frederick, had founded. In 1940 she met Ted deBuhr, a sales representative for Mason City Tent & Awning Company. They dated for nearly six years and were married at the Norway Lutheran Church in rural St. Olaf in 1946. Allison and Ted purchased a home in Rockford, Iowa and moved there where she resided for over 50 years. They were married for 41 years until Ted’s passing in 1977. They had three children, Ted II, Eloise (Ellie) and Frederick (Rick), who were all born in Charles City, Iowa and raised in Rockford. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church of Rockford. She moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1998 to live close to her son, Rick, who was a willing and loving care provider along with Pascale Saba who also provided loving care to her in her home during later years. Allison was short in stature but was a woman of great integrity. Profoundly missed and cherished, she will be fondly remembered as she inspired many with her sharp wit, dry sense of humor and unwavering commitment to her beliefs. She was a loyal and caring friend to many in Rockford and to her friends at Cottage Grove Plaza East in Cedar Rapids. She is survived by her son, Ted II, and wife, Peggy, of Dallas, Texas; their daughter, Michelle, and husband, Stephen Pletcher, also of Dallas and their three sons - Jacob, Colin, and Bryan; their daughter, Aimee’ Noelle and husband, Brandon Delley, of Atlanta, Georgia and their daughter, Holland. Her daughter, Ellie, and husband, Dr. David Hickey, of Dallas, and son, Rick, and wife, Chris, of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by many deBuhr nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of a memorial in Allison’s name to Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave., Rockford, IA 50468. Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 3, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Cottage Grove Place, 2115 First Ave., Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. There will be a graveside service on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford followed by a reception at Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford, Iowa.
