Mrs. John Kassmeyer age 83, passed away about 10:30 that morning at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings. She became ill with severe chest pains during the night and called her daughter Mrs. Tom Dolnicek about 3:00 a.m. She was taken an hour later by ambulance to the hospital. The Mass of the Resurrection was offered at 10:00 a.m. by Father John Kelly who also officiated at the graveside service in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The song leader for the Mass was Leonard Mazour, accompanied by Sister Herman Joseph at the organ. Commentator was Don Pohlmeier. Pall bearers were Robert McIllece, Clarence Beyke, Ernest Pohlmeier, Leroy Hoelting, Robert Hoelting and Clarence Jurgensmeier. Alma Kassmeyer, daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Schreiner) Brown was born near Dunbar, Nebraska in Otoe County on August 30, 1892 and died at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings Nebraska on February 27 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 27 days. At the age of 12 she with her parents moved to Lawrence and located on the farm east of town, now accupied (sic) by William Pohlmeier. In 1910, she and her parents and family moved to Gettysburg South Dakota. She was united in marriage to John Kassmeyer on June 14, 1911 at Gettysburg South Dakota where they lived until 1913 when they moved back to Lawrence where they spent the remainder of their lives. She was a life time member of the Catholic Church and belonged to the Sacred Heart Altar Society. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. She spent many hours during church work and participating in Community activities. She was proud of her family and home and loved to work in her yard and garden. Along with her family, she leaves a host of friends who will greatly miss her. She is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, a sister Mrs. George Kassmeyer and a brother Ralph Brown. She is survived by two daughters Dorothy (Mrs. George Kotinek) and LaVera (Mrs. Thomas Dolnicek) and five grandchildren. Relatives and friends attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. K.M. Sedlacek of Council Bluffs Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hustig and family of Omaha, Mrs. Merle Griffee and children of Fairbury, Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Reining and Miss Teresa Reining of Rochester, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dolnicek Jr Terry Dolnicek of Omaha, Miss Mary Dolnicek and Miss Georgia Kotinek of Lincoln, Keith Wilhelm and Dave Schroeder of Lincoln.
