Obituary, Florida Times-Union, March 2, 2008* CHANCEY Alma - Chancey, 92, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Born on September 27, 1915 in Blackshear, GA to Thomas Cleveland and Ida Peacock Chancey, she was the 3rd eldest of 10 children. Having lived in Jacksonville for most of her life, Alma worked very hard to take care of her brothers, sisters and mother after losing her father at a young age. She would walk from their home on Emerson Street to downtown and back just to save a nickel for her family. A member of Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, Miss Chancey worked for the Coca Cola Company before she retired from Cotney Tire Company. After many years of service, she also volunteered at Baptist Medical Center for several years. She is survived by her sisters, Geraldine Powell Thomas (Perry) and Anita Skeetz McDonald; brother, Marvin Chancey (Evelyn); and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue with Dr. Kyle Reese officiating. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery will follow. Family will receive friends from 68 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Miss Chancey's name to the Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church rebuilding fund.
