Alma is survived by her children, Mary Catherine Purvis of Chapin, SC, James Alvin Bryant Jr. and daughter-in-law Jean Bryant of Lexington SC; and Donna Gail Simmons of Gaston, SC. Alma is survived by her sisters Juanita Mamie Driggers of Charleston, SC; Mildred Rebecca Briggs and husband Richard of Myrtle Beach, SC; and sister-in-law Betty Cook of Charleston, SC. She has five grandchildren, Christopher Simmons and wife Jessica of Columbia, SC; Thomas James Simmons of Gaston, SC; Jacquelyn Marie Bryant of Durham, NC; Jessica Lee Bryant of Lexington, SC; and James Robert Purvis of Chapin, SC. She also had three great grandchildren. She was a special aunt to her nieces Nora Teodora and Debbie Tyner and nephews Bennie Cook and David Bryant, a best friend of Betty and Jim Boggs and an extraordinary friend to many others. She is predeceased by her brothers James David Cook, Warren George Cook, and Gillie Benjamin Cook. Alma Bryant worked for AT&T (Southern Bell) for almost 40 years before retiring in December 1982. She was a Charleston resident for more than 60 years, a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, a lifelong member of the AT&T Pioneers and a Senior Strikers league bowler. Alma will be remembered for her wonderful generosity and great sense of humor. She will leave an unfilled hole in the lives of all who knew her but heaven will be a more entertaining place. In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of Alma Bryant to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3935 Ashley Phosphate Rd., N. Charleston, SC 29406 (843-552-1495). The relatives and friends of Mrs. Alma Bryant are invited to attend her funeral services at Hillcrest Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, burial will follow at CAROLINA MEMORIAL PARK.
