Burial was in New Lutheran Cemetery at Norfolk Alma Schwichtenberg was born May 6, 1884 in Pierce County, daughter of the late August Schwichtenberg and Marie Lierman. She attended District 7 rural school and also attended Nebraska Normal, now Wayne State College. September 25, 1905, she was united in marriage to Rev. M. F. Scheips in a ceremony performed at Hadar Immanuel Lutheran church. Rev. Scheips was pastor at Pierce Zion Lutheran church from 1903 until his retirement in 1949 at which time they moved to Norfolk. Mrs. Scheips was widely traveled, during the time her husband was chaplain in the army and then later when she traveled to visit her children. When she was honored in 1967 for being from a Nebraska Centennial family, it was noted that she had been in every state in the union except four. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Rev. Alfred Scheips, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Edgar, Fairbury; one daughter, Mrs. Leola LeBar, Lake Charles, La.,; two grandchildren; one brother, Otto Schwichtenberg, and one sister, Mrs. Eleanor Hoskins, both of Long Beach, Calif. Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Edna; six brothers and three sisters.
