Obituary: Alma Virginia Blosser Jenkins, 91, of Kilmarnock died June 7, 2009. Mrs. Jenkins was the widow of Daniel Cameron "D. C." Jenkins Jr., who died in 1993. She was born April 18, 1918, in Stanley to George and Mary Blosser. She moved to Kilmarnock in 1939 to begin her teaching career at the one room Seventh-day Adventist Church School. She soon met and married Daniel C. Jenkins, Jr. During the 1940s and 1950s she took time off from teaching to travel to several foreign countries with her husband, who worked as a heavy equipment operator on several highway and airport construction projects. They also opened and operated the Kilmarnock Home Bakery. She retired from teaching in 1981 after a total of 30 years, most of which were spent in the Kilmarnock Seventh-day Adventist Church School. She was a longtime and active member of the Kilmarnock Seventh-day Adventist Church where she served in several offices including children's Sabbath School teacher, Sabbath School Superintendent, church treasurer and board member. She is survived by her children, Gary L. Jenkins, a daughter and son-in-law, Merry Beth and Dave Carlson, Donnie Potter and Theresa Potter; a grandson, Cameron Darrell Van Nort Carlson, all of Kilmarnock; a sister, Clarice B. White of Braddock Heights, Md.; a brother, Dale F. Blosser of Orange City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Lila Rose of White Stone; nieces and nephews, and many children around the world that she mothered through the years. Funeral services were held June 10 at the Kilmarnock Seventh-day Adventist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Dave Carlson, Slater Pittman. Keith White, Sr., William Johnson, Dickie Smith and Steve Haynie. Memorials may be made to Kilmarnock Seventh-day Adventist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 1024, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.
