Until Sept. 24 Mrs. Almeda Hill, of Palouse, Washington, and Los Angeles, died at the Drumheller Municipal Hospital, five minutes before midnight last Wednesday, as a result of complications following internal injuries sustained in a motor car accident twelve days earlier. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. D.R. Hill, suffered a fractured collar-bone in the accident but had left for her home in Washington, with her husband and brother-in-law, A. Hill. Mrs. Almeda Hill had a expressed a keen desire to be taken to her son's home at Palouse, and arrangements had been completed earlier in the day on which her death took place to send her, accompanied by a nurse, to her Washington home. Evidence given at a coroner's inquest at the Drumheller Court House, revealed the details of the accident so far as could be ascertained, which showed that the party were returning from Saskatchewan, where the Hills had been attending to private business. As they approached Drumheller and were about four miles from the city on the Saskatoon highway, the rear tire on the right side of the car blew out and sent the vehicle out of control. It crossed over to the left side of the road and turned over several times across the ditch, breaking down a barbed wire fence and coming to rest in a field on the Lambert farm. Joe Lambert and his brother, who had just arrived at the farm, heard the explosion of the tire blow-out and saw a heavy cloud of dust as the car rolled over. Running to give any possible and the two Lambert brothers assisted in removing the two injured ladies, one of whom had to be carried to a car which was passing, while the men were able to climb out of a window of the car which was on its side. Mrs. D.R. Hill, who sustained a fractured collar-bone, received treatment at the Drumheller hospital and was allowed to leave after a few days, while the elder lady, Mrs. Almeda Hill, who was seventy-three years of age, remained in the institution until her death. According to the evidence of Dr. W.N. Gourlay, the late Mrs. Hill complained only of pains in the cervical region of her neck. This was x-rayed by Allister Brown, who during his evidence produced x-ray photos of the injured woman. No fractures or dislocations were discovered. A week later, Dr. Gourlay stated, Mrs. Hill complained of severe pains in her right hip, and an x-ray film revealed a fracture of the pelvic bone. Complications from this injury had led to the development of hypo-static pneumonia, which contributed to Mrs. Hill's death. Bob Peters, of the Western Garage, told the jury of effecting repairs to the Hill car, which had two bent wheels, the fenders crumpled, the roof badly damaged and one door glass broken. Following the death of Mrs. Hill, R.C.M.P. here were then notified of the accident, and Constable O.E. Martin investigated. He submitted a plan of the accident scene, which he had constructed at the Lambert farm. Marks made by the overturned car, although twelve days old, were still plainly visible in the soft ground of the field, and broken glass was also discovered. Attaching blame to no one, the jury returned a verdict that Mrs. Hill died as a result of complications following injuries received in the accident, which had been caused by a tire blowing out. The jury consisted of: J. Hudson (foreman), D. Fisk, J. Winkelaar, B. Backer, G. Smith, T. Webb. Body of the late Mrs. Hill was prepared for burial by Winter Bros.' Funeral Chapel, who shipped the remains to Palouse, Washington, and interment was made in the Colfax cemetery, about twenty miles from Palouse.
