Almetta Agnes (Wallace) Wohlers-Richardson was born near Edgemont, SD on August 25, 1932, to Merritt C. and Agnes (Van Dewater) Wallace, and passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020. When Almetta was one year old, the family moved to their Indian Creek Ranch and she went on to attend Dist. #38 for the 1st and 2nd grade. She received her 3rd and 4th grade schooling in Edgemont, and the remainder of her education in Harrison, NE. Almetta graduated from Sioux County High School in 1950, then went on to receive her B.S. Degree in Education from Chadron State College. She taught school near Squaw Mound where she met her future husband, Ralph Elton Wohlers. Almetta and Ralph were married in Crawford on August 2, 1953, and resided for the next 4 decades on the family farm his father had purchased in 1907. During these years, Almetta taught at numerous country schools around the surrounding area. Almetta moved to Crawford, NE in the spring of 1994 when Ralph became a resident at the Ponderosa Villa Nursing Home. After Ralph passed away on July 10, 1994, due to complications of congestive heart failure and emphysema, Almetta moved back to the farm. Almetta married Dugald Richardson on August 13, 1997, and they lived on the farm until Dugald passed away on September 28, 2014 due to a stroke. At that time, Almetta became a resident at the Ponderosa Villa Nursing Home, where she continued to live until the time of her death. Almetta loved any type of music. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing and listening to the radio and any music on TV. She took great joy in teaching her elementary students music, particularly the piano. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, drawing, sewing, crocheting and many other numerous craft and art projects. Before she became too ill to travel, she also enjoyed traveling the country and going to Prairie Winds Casino. She collected toy tractors as well as salt and pepper sets. She was a wiz at Sudoku and completed hundreds of books of Sudoku puzzles. Almetta was loved by so many people. She was known for her laugh and to always have a smile on her face and loved to visit with her friends and family; she truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She was such a strong and amazing woman, daughter, wife, mother and friend to so many people. As a teacher, she always poured her heart and soul into teaching and took great pride in each and every one of her students. She faced so many hard challenges and struggles during her lifetime, yet she never complained; she faced them head on with poise, dignity and grace. Almetta will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gerald Wallace and Quinton Wallace. Almetta is survived by her daughter, Terrie Youngberg (Mel) of Vale, SD; her son, Wallace Wohlers, (Stacy) of Crawford, NE; and daughter, Christina Moody (Dan Ensrud) of Rapid City, SD; 1 granddaughter and 4 grandsons; as well as great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
