Clifford, near Lake City, Iowa, Feb. 2, 1914 at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 11 days. As a girl Mrs. Davis, or Miss Firth as she was then known, was a favorite among her associates, a leader among her classmates and won for herself a coveted place in her society. She was married to Mr. Gilford Dudley Davis in Marseilles March 28, 1866 with whom she lived happily until death called him to his reward on Nov. 2, 1909. From the time of this sad bereavement she continued living in Lake City until misfortune again overtook her in the form of an accident, which happened Aug. 5, 1912, at which time she unfortunately had a fall which injured her so badly that she never recovered. Since that time, being unable to care for herself, she has made her home with her children who were always thoughtful of her every want and made life as comfortable for her as was in their power. As a neighbor Sister Davis always lived according to the teachings of the golden rule; administered to the wants of the needy, visited the sick with words of comfort and cheer, sympathized with all who were in sorrow hidden. Compassionate and kind, she was a welcome visitor in every home, for she always brought a ray of sunshine to scatter on overhanging clouds. As a companion she was tender and true, assuming the duties of homemaking with a merry heart and a wise head. She delighted not in public affairs nor in high social circles, but rather took pleasure in making her little home a paradise for her companion and children. So carefully did she labor to this end that a friend, or even a stranger, crossing the threshold of her dwelling could at once feel that spirit of welcome mingled with reverence as to make him feel he was on holy ground. So gently did she lead her children through life's training school that so long as life within them lasts they will rise up and call her blessed. She became a Christian early in life and united with the M. E. church, where she remained faithful to every trust of her Master. After she was married, she with her husband, united with the Baptist church and has proven herself a never-tiring worker in the Lord's work. She has filled various places in church service profitably and has led many to thoughtfulness and decision. Her last sickness has been long and lingering. For six months she has almost or entirely been bedridden. Her sufferings at times were very great, but she bore them with Christian fortitude, always thankful to her Savior for giving her strength to bear the pain; also with great heart bestowing a blessing upon her loved ones who so faithfully administered to her every want. Almost her last words were "Dear Jesus, take me home." The chariot, the horseman and the angel of mercy came to separate the sufferer forever from pain. The tired soul stepped in, the command was given and the chariot with its jewel was wafted to heaven. She leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Miss Elizabeth Firth of Osgood, Ind.; six children William F. Davis of Mason City, Nebr., Mrs. Laura Price of Ansley, Nebr., Mrs. Lillie Sparks of Blanchard, Mrs. Mary Phipps of Glidden, Everett D. Davis of Auburn and Mrs. Lizzie Clifford of Lake City; thirty-three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, a number of relatives and a host of friends who need our sympathy in this our sad hour of bereavement. The funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church at one o'clock Thursday, Feb. 5 by her pastor, Rev. T. A.
