Description	:	Mrs. Almira Taber, an aged and respected citizen of this part of the county, died at the home of her brother, John Hempstead, northeast of town, last Saturday, October 28, 1905, after a prolonged illness with cancer of the stomach, at the age of 79 years. The funeral was held from the Hempstead home on Monday afternoon, Rev. Mrs. S. L. Orom of this city officiating, and was largely attended, the floral offerings being unusually profuse and beautiful. Read More	Mrs. Almira Taber, an aged and respected citizen of this part of the county, died at the home of her brother, John Hempstead, northeast of town, last Saturday, October 28, 1905, after a prolonged illness with cancer of the stomach, at the age of 79 years. The funeral was held from the Hempstead home on Monday afternoon, Rev. Mrs. S. L. Orom of this city officiating, and was largely attended, the floral offerings being unusually profuse and beautiful. Burial was made in the Mead cemetery. Mrs. Taber was born in Oneida county, New York, July 5, 1826, and until her marriage to John H. Taber, in 1851, she taught school in that county. In 1854 Mr. and Mrs. Taber came to Iowa, living for a few months in Butler county, then removing to this county, where they resided until their death. Mr. Taber bought the farm northeast of town now occupied by Mr. Rizer, and for forty years the family lived on the place. On the death of Mr. Taber, eight years ago, Mrs. Taber went to make her home with her brother, Mr. Hempstead. She is survived by one son, J. W. Taber of this township, three grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. George Bliss of Warrenburg, Missouri, who is here, and one brother, John Hempstead. It is strange to relate that Mrs. Bliss and Mr. Hempstead are now the only surviving members of a family of seventeen children. Mrs. Taber was a quiet, home-loving woman, devoted to her family and its interests and faithful to every obligation of life. Her death is a great sorrow to those who loved her.
