Contributed by Jacie - Source: History & Genealogy of the James Jennings Family - Obituary of Almira Barnard Jennings At her residences in Rochester Township, Cedar Co., Iowa, November 18, 1889, Mrs. Almira Jennings, wife of James Jennings, aged 57 years, 8 months and 16 days. Mrs. Jennings was born in Washington Co., Indiana, March 21, 1832, the daughter of John and Sophronia Barnard, who moved from there to Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. June 2, 1850, Miss Barnard was joined in wedlock to James Jennings and they moved to Iowa in September 1852, settling to the place where she died in March 1853. She was the mother of 10 children, two dying in early life, and eight remaining to mourn the loss of a loving mother. She confessed her faith in the Son of God in 1851, and lived to honor Him until He called her to Himself. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a kind and obliging neighbor, and the needy never applied for help and were turned away empty. Her funeral was conducted by Elder Garmedy of the Christian Church of Davenport and was largely attended by her neighbors and friends. What is our loss is her gain. Rest, dear mother.
