N. Morse died at her home on Clarke street on Thursday night shortly before midnight after an illness of several weeks. Myra R. Sutton, daughter of Herman (Himan) and Olive Sutton, was born in Oswego county, New York, May 13, 1844. On February 9, 1865, she became the wife of Miles L. Northway, of Whiteside county, Ill. Three years later they came to Blackhawk county, Iowa. Mr. Northway died April 14, 1881, leaving his wife and one adopted daughter, Edith. After eight years of widowhood, Mrs. Northway again assumed the responsibility of married life by becoming the wife of Charles N. Morse, of Tama county, Iowa, a widower with three little girls, Nellie, Pearl and Laura, aged respectively 13, 14 and 8 years of age. This marriage took place November 14, 1889. In 1891 they left the farm and went to Waterloo for the purpose of giving the girls a better chance in school, but Mr. Morse's business interests seemed to call him West and in March, 1893, they came to LeMars, where they have since resided. The early records of this life was[sic] marked very clearly by the finger of God. When quite young she gave her heart to Jesus and united with the Methodist Episcopal church. This early knowledge of her Saviour was the product of faithful teaching of His truth by her parents, whom she faithfully followed. The acceptance of Jesus Christ as her Master brought with it the call to Christian service. The path of duty opened to her in the work of the Sabbath School and when fifteen years old she assumed the task and from that time until she was called home she faithfully performed her work. Her careful work in teaching others in the Sunday School came from a close study of the Word of God, and a careful application of its teachings to her life. Her life seemed to be wrapped up in the Master's business. In later years her field of greatest delight, and who will not say the most far reaching results, lay in the training of the children in the primary department of the Sunday School. Soon after coming to LeMars she was elected to the presidency of the W. H. M. Society, which she ably filled and faithfully performed until one year ago, when failing health compelled her to give up the work she so much loved. In the home life she was a consistent, conscientious Christian, exercising unfaltering trust in her Heavenly Father to guide her in every walk of life. She loved her home and in every way sought to lead each member of the family not only to Christ but into very close relationship with Him. She faithfully maintained the morning devotions, and in the evening hour would search His word for her "pillow verse" for the night watches. She was at all times obedient to the call of her church, and could be found in her accustomed pew unless prevented by sickness or some unavoidable cause. She loved to see men and women find the Saviour and persistently pleaded at the throne of grace in behalf of the lost. The church will miss her sweet smile and loving manner, and the community suffers the loss of a good woman. For the past few years she has been a sufferer, but without complaint or murmur. During the past few weeks she has been confined to her bed patiently waiting the summons to come home. During her last illness she often said, "Jesus, carry me home." The closing moments of her earthly career were marked by a halo of light as she was transferred from earth to Heaven. A good Christian, a loving wife and devoted person in the home, and a faithful, devoted member of the church has been called to her Heavenly home. She leaves to look forward to a happy reunion in Heaven, a devoted husband and four members of the family. They are, Mrs. Clarence Hoorneman, of this city; Mrs. Lem Brown, of Pierre, South Dakota; Mrs. Chas. LaFleur, of Billings, Mont., and Miss Edith Northway. She also leaves three brothers and two sisters. Being a member of a family of twelve she has already been greeted by those who have gone before. She took great pleasure in the two grandchildren, Clyde and Clarence Moore Hoornemann. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at the home at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. G. F. Whitefield.
