Doebbeling Found Dead in Yard Monday Noon - Had Appeared to be in Usual Health Monday, death visited this community and A. J. Doebbeling was called to rest. Mr. Doebbeling's death came very sudden, as he had been in very good health. Monday morning he had cut some weeds and, after eating a hearty dinner, went back out to the yard. After a short while Mrs. Doebbeling looked out and saw him lying on the ground. She immediately called for assistance, and all efforts to bring Mr. Doebbeling back to life, were futile. The Doebbelings have lived in Harper since 1912. Of late years, his greatest pleasure had been to do mechanical work, and "Daddy" Doebbeling could always be found around some of the garages, assisting or watching the mechanical work on the cars. Within the past year or two, his land holdings in Oklahoma have become quite valuable by the discovery of oil on his land, and he and his wife were in a position to enjoy the fruits of their labors. Almond John Doebbeling was born at Peppertown, Indiana, April 17, 1865 and died at his home in Harper, Kansas with a stroke of appoplexy Monday afternoon, August 22; age 62 years, three months and five days. In the year 1870 he moved with his parents to Missouri. He was united in marriage November 25th, 1898 to Miss Sophie Vonderschmidt of Craig, Mo. To this union were born two children: Mrs. Edith Love of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mrs. Elsie Gaither, Waldron, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Doebbeling began their married life on a farm in Earlsboro, Oklahoma, remaining there until the year 1906 when they moved to Claude, Texas. In the year 1912 they retired from the farm, moving to Harper, Kansas. Mr. Doebbeling was baptised in infancy and confirmed at the age of fourteen in the Lutheran Church being a member of the same church until his death. He leaves to mourn his departure besides his wife and two daughters, two brothers, Mr. Edward N. of Craig, Mo. and Sim of Ness City Kansas, two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Hannebaum, Indianapolis, Ind. and Mrs. Alice McCoy, Earlsboro, Ok. Besides these a number of friends and acquaintances. Funeral services were held at the family residence in charge of Rev. W. E. Callahan of the Methodist Episcopal Church and interment was made in the Harper Cemetery.
