Alona was born in 1927 to Gustave and Dorothy (Smith) Erichsen at Mikkelson House in Clear Lake, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Altamont, SD and more recently an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach. Alona lived on a farm north of Altamont, attending a country school nearby. In 1935 they moved to a farm west of Altamont, near Goddard Lakes. She attended school at Altamont Public School and Clear Lake High School, graduating in 1945. After graduation, she and four other classmates went to Washington, DC to work for the U. S. Navy. Alona graduated from Capital City School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse working for Gallinger Municipal Hospital, later renamed DC General Hospital. She went on to earn a master's degree at Columbia University in New York City. She served as Supervisor of the Medical Nursing Dept. before finally becoming 2nd in command as Assistant Director of Nursing. She was united in marriage to Eldridge Lee Myers, Jr. on March 4, 1960 making a home in Bethesda, MD. She retired from nursing in 1987 and moved to Virginia Beach, VA. Over the years they enjoyed cruising the world and wintering at their home in Palm Bay, FL. She also had an avid passion for reading. Survivors include her husband Lee of 52 years; a step-son, William "Bill" Hollingsworth and wife Karen of Carlsbad, CA; a brother, Dwight "Skip" and wife Ruth Erichsen of Watertown, SD; 3 nieces, Julia Erichsen of Sioux Falls, SD, Jodi and husband Mark Messerli, and Jill Erichsen all of Watertown, SD.
