Read More	FORMER DEPUTY SHERIFF IN CHEROKEE COUNTY DIES Galena, Kan., March 2. -- Alpha Leonard Gilstrap, 58 years old, former deputy sheriff, died of a heart attack at 2:15 o'clock Sunday afternoon at his home, 715 East Seventh Street. Employed as a guard at the Vickers Incorporated plant in Joplin the last month, Mr. Gilstrap had worked a shift from midnight Saturday night, until 8 o'clock Sunday morning. Upon arrival home, he complained of a pain in his chest and went to bed. He arose at noon and had dinner but later, complaining of increased pain in his chest and difficulty in breathing, he went back to bed. A physician was called and an oxygen tank was rushed to the home from the fire station, but all efforts to revive him failed. Mr. Gilstrap was born in Newton county, Missouri, April 27, 1894, and was reared on a farm 10 miles south of Joplin. He was married to Rachel Wells December 25, 1914, and they came to Galena to reside in 1924. He had resided at his present home, 715 East Seventh street, the last 14 years. He was employed in the mines in the Tri-State area for approximately 30 years. He served as deputy sheriff in Cherokee county for six years. He was a member of the Elks lodge here and of the Church of Christ. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Rachel Gilstrap; two sons, Vernon Gilstrap of Gary, Ind., and Clyde Gilstrap of Galena; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Pangburn of Galena and Mrs. Dorothy Card of Galena; a brother, Finas Gilstrap of Galena; four sisters, Mrs. Sula Chambers and Mrs. Lucille Harlan of Newton county, Missouri; Mrs. Grace Vaughn of Galena and Mrs. Ethel Pettus of Baxter Springs, and four grandchildren.
