Description	:	A. Merle Hanns, 82, died at 2:35 PM Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, in the Indiana Veterans Home, where he had been a resident for seven months. Born April 5, 1923, at Boswell, IN, he lived in West Lafayette for several years before retiring and moving to Florida, where he most recently lived in Avon Park. He was married to Joanne DeLong Sutton; they divorced. He then married Patricia Smith; they also divorced. Merle Hanns, 82, died at 2:35 PM Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, in the Indiana Veterans Home, where he had been a resident for seven months. Born April 5, 1923, at Boswell, IN, he lived in West Lafayette for several years before retiring and moving to Florida, where he most recently lived in Avon Park. He was married to Joanne DeLong Sutton; they divorced. He then married Patricia Smith; they also divorced. Mr. Hanns was self-employed and the owner/operator of Gulf service stations in Lafayette and West Lafayette. He was co-owner of West Side Car Wash, and most recently, the owner of Tippecanoe Trucking Company. He retired in 1978. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Force from 1942-1948. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Blue Lodge, Masonic Lodge in West Lafayette, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars at Avon Park. He also was a member of Elks Lodge at Wells, FL. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, photography and flying. Surviving are three daughters, Anita Robinson (husband Tom) of Lafayette, Michelle Meyer (husband Rick) of West Lafayette, and Sue Rodman (husband Steve) of Danville, IL; his companion, Thelma Burroughs of Westfield, IN; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
