Description	:	Alpheus was a son of Jeremiah A. Grasty, a Civil War veteran, and his wife Susan E. Robbins, who married in Bates County, Missouri January 28, 1869. (Missouri marriage record) Jeremiah A., or "Jerry" Grasty, age 6, born in Missouri, resided with his father, William Grasty, 43, in the 1850 Johnson County, Missouri census. Grasty, age 53, was in [Sugar] Creek Township, Lykins County, Kansas Territory in the 1860 census, dated in September, post office, West Point, (Missouri.) ----------- J. A. is recorded as age 16 in the 1860 census. T. Grasty, a female age 46, is recorded in the U. S. Federal Census Mortality Schedules with death in April of 1860 in Sugar Creek Township, Lykins County, Kansas Territory. (This county was renamed Miami County in honor of the Miami Indians.) The 1865 Sugar Creek, Miami County, Kansas state census records J. A. Grasty as age 21, a Civil War veteran, again with his father and other family members. The 1875 state census, in the same location, records J. A. Grasty with Susan E., 27, William H., 4; & Charlie, 1. Susan E. Grasty died in 1878 and is buried in Bates County, Missouri with 2 of her young children. (West Point Cemetery records) Alpheus is recorded as age 3 in the 1880 Centerville, Linn, Kansas census with his father, his step-mother Letha, step-siblings, his older siblings, and his paternal grandfather, William Grasty, 72, born in Kentucky. Alpheus married Jessie McCubbin in April of 1902 in Linn County.
