Groothuis Alrich Francis Groothius, son of John and Elizabeth Groothius was born July 26, 1880 at Ostfriesland, Germany. He departed to be with the lord, his savior, at the Jameson Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa June 23, 1945 at the age of 64, 10 months, and 26 days. He came to America with his parents at the age of seven years and settled in Aplington, Iowa. When a boy 12 years old, he was brought to see his need of Christ and was saved by simply trusting in the finished work on the cross of calvary. He was married February 1, 1905 to Minnie Garrels at Aplington, Iowa. They have always resided on farms near Aplington. They were the parents of four children. John who is with the armed forces in Germany. Fred of Aplington, Herman of Dumont and Mrs. D.N. Smith of McGregor, Iowa. Besides his four children he leaves his life companion, one sister, Anna Jansen of Peking, Illinois and seven grandchildren to mourn the loss of a dear husband and father. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. Mr. Groothuis saw it by the grace of god, to live a testimony for the one who died and saved his precious soul he will be greatly missed and in the assembly at Hitesville where he was a help and encouragement to the Lord's people. His funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Hitesville Gospel Hall. Mr. Hamilton of La Crosse, Wisconsin and O.G. Smith of Waterloo conducted the funeral burial was in Hitesville cemetery.
