Description	:	Alta Marie Shay, 88 years old, passed away May 21, 2011, at the Billings Clinic. Alta was born in Reedpoint, Mont., on Sept. 29, 1922, to Lester and Lois Boyland. Alta was one of nine children living on a farm around Reedpoint and graduating from Reedpoint High School. After graduation and serving in the Marine Corp, she returned to Montana and married Billy E. Bray, becoming a housewife and working evening hours in their mechanic shop until it closed. She raised four sons along with working at the Carbon County Extension Office in Joliet until her retirement after thirty years.... Read More	Alta Marie Shay, 88 years old, passed away May 21, 2011, at the Billings Clinic. Alta was born in Reedpoint, Mont., on Sept. 29, 1922, to Lester and Lois Boyland. Alta was one of nine children living on a farm around Reedpoint and graduating from Reedpoint High School. After graduation and serving in the Marine Corp, she returned to Montana and married Billy E. Bray, becoming a housewife and working evening hours in their mechanic shop until it closed. Alta was active in the Whitehorse Pacesetter 4-H Club and served over thirty years as a 4-H leader in Carbon County. In 1984, she married Loyd Shay and became very active in the Laurel Saddle Club, American Legion Post 123, VFW Post 6774, Laurel Senior Center, holding many elected positions. Alta was preceded in death by her parents; husband Billy E. Bray; brother James Boylan; sister Bonnie (Boylan) Miller; sons, Donald E. Bray and Billy Z. Bray; and husband Loyd Shay. Alta is survived by her sons Ronald D. (Jackie) Bray, Bernard L. (Marcia) Bray; grandchildren; great grandchildren; step children and spouses. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 26, at 2 p.m. at the Laurel United Methodist Church. Viewing/visitation will be held Wednesday, May 25, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings with military honors. Reception will follow at the Laurel Methodist Church.
