Alta's parents were Ferdinand and Elida (Person/Nelson) Larson, first & second generation immigrants from Sweden. Her grand-father, Alfred Larson, was one of the first homesteaders in the Beaver Valley area & charter member of the Beaver Valley Church. She was baptized and confirmed in that church and was a lifelong member. She attended the Beaver Bend rural school, about a mile from her home, as did all her siblings. She married David Olson on June 15, 1935, and they had two children: Miles and Linda. Dave passed away on May 1, 2004. She spent much of her life caring for people. Her mother had severe, disabling rheumatoid arthritis, and Alta was her primary caregiver until she married. Then, she and her sister, Eleanor shared that responsibility, providing care for their mother and, eventually, their father virtually every day until both died. She also made regular visits to sick and shut-in friends, especially those in nursing homes. Alta was a fine musician. Self taught, like her musical parents, she was organist for the Beaver Valley Church for many years. She played for countless funerals and weddings and accompanied many soloists as well as the Beaver Valley Men's Chorus. She was also an occasional organist at the George Boom Funeral Home. The Olson and Larson Households were full of music, and Alta was always a part of the singing and playing. She was actively involved in the women's organizations of her church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a tireless worker in many community projects, especially in efforts which led to the founding of both the Tri-State Memorial Hospital and Bethany Home. She was an election judge for Valley Springs Township for many years. Alta is survived by her children, Miles and Arla Olson and Linda and Jim Elliott; six grandchildren, Diane and Larry Postler, Lori and Dale Weimer, Jill and Rob Kiefer, Keith and Kim Elliott, Kris and Jeff Haines, Steve and Kim Elliott. She has 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Alta was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters, Edna Augusta Larson (in infancy), Edna Victoria Wirth, and Eleanor Nelson; four brothers, Percy, Harry, Belmont, and Orville Larson."
