Description	:	Althera May Jetsimam, eldest daughter of Adam and Marentha Jessiman was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Dec. 19, 1877, on a Wednesday at 8 p.m. and weighed 10 pounds. Read More	Althera May Jetsimam, eldest daughter of Adam and Marentha Jessiman was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Dec. 19, 1877, on a Wednesday at 8 p.m. and weighed 10 pounds. When four years old, with her parents, she moved to Independence, Mo., where the family had an apartment in the home of Bro. and Sr. Joseph Luff for 1 1/2 years. She was blessed at the age of five years and baptized at the age of 10 into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and confirmed all by Bro. Joseph Luff. Her youth was spent in Independence, Mo.. with her parents, two brothers, and two sisters. She moved to Lamoni, Iowa when 18 years old, as her father was selected to superintend the first building at Graceland college (Administration building). At the age of 20 years, her mother passed away (Nov. 27, 1897), leaving, Alla, as she was known, to care for her brothers and sisters. ages I4, 10, 6, and 3 years, and a baby brother, age 3 weeks. Baby was named Griffin (his mother's maiden name). This baby brother passed away at the age of 2 1/2 years at the home of Bro. and Sr. Alexander Smith on April 18, 1900. Alla's father remarried February 22, 190O, and took the three younger children. Sister, 14, made her home with Bro. and Sr. Henry Stebbins and Alla was with Bro. and Sr. Alexander Smith. In June, 1900, she went to live in the home of Dr. Bertha Greer. The loss of the baby brother fell with particular weight on this oldest sister, Alla. The funeral was held at the Alexander Smith home, with Bro. Joseph Luff preaching the sermon. He was in Lamoni attending the RIDS 1900 General Conference. In 1901 she met Elder Charles E. Harpe and they were close friends for four years. On April 10, 1905, they were married at 5 p.m. at the home of Dr. Bertha A. Greer, who gave them a nice wedding supper. Heman C. Smith performed the ceremony. To the happy union three children were born: Heman Alexander of Lemoni, Ruth Marian Wilmot of Oakland, Calif., and Meriel Charlene Harpham, also of Oakland, Calif.
