Description	:	Al Pietsch, 78, of Kimball died June 5, 2013 at Cheyenne Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball with Reverend Christine Plantz officiating. Interment will be held at the Kimball Cemetery following the service. Memorials have been established to the Kimball Golf Course. Cantrell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Alva Eugene Pietsch was born in St. Francis, Kansas on April 21, 1935 to Alice Sampson. After a transient early childhood, they settled in the town of Mitchell, NE. He graduated Mitchell High School in 1954, where he was senior class president. Further, Al was a three sport athlete earning all-state honors in football and helping lead his basketball team to the state tournament. He continued his education and played football at Kearney State College. He then earned his degree at Chadron State College in Education while earning money switching cars on the railroad. Upon graduation, he married Fredene Gompert in the Federated Church in Mitchell. He taught and coached in Minatare, NE. Al and Fredene moved to Kimball in 1961 to continue his teaching career. He obtained his Master's Degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado and was named principal of the Kimball Jr. High School. Al then accepted the new challenge of becoming an independent insurance agent. His insurance career spanned over 25 years where he owned and operated various insurance agencies. He became one of the leading insurance agents for the oil industry. Meanwhile, Al was very active in the community. He served as President of the school board, as President of the Rotary, and became a 33rd Degree Mason , Grand Mason of the Lodge and Shriner. Al also served as Warden of the Episcopal Church. He was very instrumental in raising funds for various causes in the community. Al was an awesome husband, father and Grampie. He instilled the value of hard work, integrity, and honesty in each of his kids. His generosity to his family left them never wanting for anything. He was always there to lend a helping hand. His quick wit and sense of humor were known by all. Al is survived by his three children and their families; Jon (Lara) of Cheyenne, WY and their children, Rachel and Matthew; Jeanine Pope (Jeffery) of Fort Morgan, CO and their children, Jonathon and Jayne; Jennifer Roley (Marc) of Fort Collins, CO and their children Michael and Alicyn. He is preceded in death by his wife Fredene and his mother Alice McCready.
