He lived there until the age of 15 when he moved to the Ticonic community, moving to Smithland in 1912. On Sept. 24, 1912 he married Effie Clark at Onawa and on June 20, 1945 he married Bernice McClarty at Elk; Point, S.D. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Leslie Seaton American Legion Post at Smithland, which was named after his son who was killed in the war. He enlisted with his youngest son and he and his four sons all served during World War II. He was a farmer and contractor at Smithland. He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Robert Smith of South Sioux City, Mrs. Edwin Snow of Pueblo, Colo., Mrs. Leslie Fennel of Onawa, Mrs. Charles Smith of South Sioux City, Mrs. William Johnson of Moscow, Idaho, Mrs. Robert Raines of Fayette, Idaho; five sons, Orthel of Chateau, Mont., Henry of Sioux City, Chris of Los Angeles, Willis of Detroit, and Paul of Herrick; 47 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. John Fisher and Mrs. William Szickoufsky of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Irene Dunbar of Onawa, and a brother Burl Seaton of Castana. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Walter funeral home in Mapleton with Rev. E. G. Otte officiating. Burial was in Smithland cemetery. Graveside rites were conducted by the Leslie Seaton Post of the American Legion of Smithland. Pallbearers were Norman Stickney, Clem Claus, Don Sulsburger, Clarence Price, Duane Clark and Vernon Heck.
