Description	:	Funeral services for Alvas Hallvin, 81, of Norfolk, were held Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norfolk. Reverend Dermont Dunne officiated the 10:30 service with burial in St. Ludger Catholic Cemetery in Creighton. Military rites were conducted by the VFW Post #1151 of Creighton. Mr. Hallvin passed away Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk. He was born on a farm west of Wausa, April 2, 1922, the son of Gustav and Elsa Johannsen Hallvin. Mr. Hallvin passed away Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk. He was born on a farm west of Wausa, April 2, 1922, the son of Gustav and Elsa Johannsen Hallvin. His parents came to America from Sweden in 1920. Alvar attended rural school through eighth grade. He worked for several farmers before being drafted into the United States Navy. Following his discharge, he returned to the Creighton area and was employed at Largen Manufacturing. On May 14, 1947, Alvar married Janice Christiansen at St. Ludger Catholic Church. The couple stated farming, raising livestock in the Creighton area in 1948. They also farmed in the Osmond and Wausa areas. Alvar was employed at the Bloomfield Feed Mill, where he was involved in the feed and nutrition department. Later, he was employed at the Osmond Co-op. Having discontinued farming and only raising livestock, he became a bonded livestock buyer, going to sales in Creighton, Norfolk, Laurel, Verdigre and Yankton. In May of 1981, the couple moved to Hadar, where he continued buying livestock for his customers until he retired in 1998 because of illness. He had been a resident of Heritage of Bel Air since August of 2000. He is survived by his wife of 56 years; two children, seven grandchildren and five great grandsons.
