Description	:	Alvilda Pope Russ, 93, widow of Leslie T. Russ, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, at her home. Mrs. Russ was born July 17, 1921, in Pleasant Hill, a daughter of the late Irby Pope and the late Eva Tanner Pope. She was a member of Screven Baptist Church and a past member of Center Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her yard, sewing and going on long walks. Earl Russ (Brenda) of Florence; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Thayer Pope (Mary) of Rock Mount, NC, Joe Pope (Ella) of Hemingway, Wayne Avant (Janice) of Hemingway, and Johnny Avant of Pleasant Hill; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Russ; and two sisters, Olene Avant and Myrtle Goude. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 24, 2014, in Screven Baptist Church, one hour prior to the service which will begin at 3:00 p.m. The Rev. Jason Williams will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown is in charge of the arrangements.
