He was first married to the late Mrs. Bertie F. Baxley Tanner. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lottie Ethridge Casselman Tanner of Georgetown; three sons, D. L. Tanner and Ervin O. Tanner, both of Florence; Minton Tanner of Georgetown; two daughters, Mrs. Fay Wall of Nesmith and Mrs. Gussie Jones of Nichols; two step sons, Ellerbe S. Baxley of Andrews and Theron Casselman of Whiteville, N. C.; seven step-daughters, Mrs. Mary James, Mrs. Annie Barnes and Mrs. Willard Glisson, all of Georgetown; Mrs. German Long, Mrs. Luther Ethridge, Mrs. Eddie Benton, all of Andrews; and Mrs. Delphin Morris of Charleston; 42 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren; 32 step-grandchildren and 29 step-great-grandchildren.
