He was born July 17, 1907 in Hamilton County to the late Henry and Minnie (Blase) Smith. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church July 28, 1807. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church School and was confirmed on April 9, 1922. He married Frances Collett on March 2, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church at Hampton. They established residence on the farm where he was born, where they lived until the time of his death. ... Read More	Alvin C. Smith (as printed in the Polk Progress 8-16-1978) Alvin C. Smith, 71, of Polk died Monday, August 7, at York General hospital. He was born July 17, 1907 in Hamilton County to the late Henry and Minnie (Blase) Smith. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church July 28, 1807. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church School and was confirmed on April 9, 1922. He married Frances Collett on March 2, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church at Hampton. They established residence on the farm where he was born, where they lived until the time of his death. During his years of membership he served his church in the capacity of elder, trustee, member of the board of education, treasurer and finance committee. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Janelle (Dennis) Carlson of Shelby and Mrs. Janice (Ronald) Junge of Conrad, Ill., four grandchildren and three sisters, Marie Smith of York Hearthstone, Mrs. Sophie (Art) Dose of Hampton and Mrs. Norma (Lester) Rohde of Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, with Rev. Leland Kleopfer officiating. Mr. Ernest Riekenberg of Hampton, organist, accompanied Mr. Allen Ziegelbein of McCook who sang "How Great Thou Art". "Nearer My God to Thee" was sung by the church choir under the direction of Mr. Richard Bicker who also led the Bell Choir in "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were Daniel Collett, Donald Dose, Kenneth Ziegelbein, Robert Buller, William D. Collett and Charles Ziegelbein. Interment was in the church cemetery.
