The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, January 15, 1948 ====== Alvin Charles Cloud, the son of John and Emma Jane Cloud, was born at Nelson, Nebraska, March 21, 1885, and passed away at the hospital in Hastings, Nebr. January 14, 1948, at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 23 days. He lived his entire life in this community, being engaged in carpentry work. On April 6, 1910, he was married to Ellen Alberta Gress, who mourns his passing. Jim, as he was known by all, was a friend to all who knew him and was very interested in his home and community; he will be very greatly missted by his loved ones and friends. He was of a family of six children, all of whom survive him except one brother, Tommy, who died in infancy. The mother and father have also preceded him in death. Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife, a stepdaughter, Mrs. J.D. Long, two grandchildren and one great grandchild; brothers Ed of Yankton, S.D. and Henry of Cozad, Nebr., Harry and a sister Aletha of Chicago; also a host of friends. The funeral was held at the Klawitter funeral home at 2:30 Friday, the 16th; because of the delayed arrival of relatives the burial occurred Saturday at ten o'clock in the Nelson cemetery. Rev. J.W. Kennedy conducted the services. A male quartet consisting of Lowell Powell, Joe Van Valin, Vic Crandell and Ollie Aiken (sic), with Mrs. Kennedy at the piano, sang "Near to the Heart of God" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." Those attending from out-of-twon were Harry Cloud, Aletha Teska, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Lehman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Casler of Hastings; Mrs. W.B.
