Main, with Pastors Joe Hobbs and Mike Henry officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, SD at 4 pm, Sunday. Alvin was born March 2, 1913 to Paul and Anna Grace (Archambeau) Picotte on their farm at Lake Andes, SD. He attended primary and secondary schools at Marty Mission, Marty, SD, Campion, IL, Milwaukee, WI and graduated from North State University in Aberdeen, SD with a B.S. in Education in 1962. He taught German, English, and Spanish in high schools, one year at Clark, SD, one year at Barnard, SD, and fourteen years at Groton, SD. He was the lead mechanic at the Rosebud Government Garage; steam engineer at the Rosebud Boarding School, Mission, SD and Rosebud Agency. He entered the US Army on April 28, 1944 and was honorably discharged on November 9, 1945. He operated the Farm Service Garage at Berthoud, CO and worked as a steam engineer at the old Cheyenne River Boarding School, Cheyenne Agency, SD. He was united in marriage to Vylla Grace Schunk on November 19,1938 at Winner, SD. They lived at Rosebud, Mission, Berthoud, CO, Cheyenne Agency, SD and forty-four years at Aberdeen, SD. Al loved his wife, family, friends and students. He was a very good husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Children were his special love. Al professed to be a Christian in 1981 and had a special love for God through Jesus. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Vylla, Aberdeen, SD; two sons, Paul (Ida) Picotte, Aberdeen, SD, Alvin (Dixie) Picotte, Sault Ste. Marie, MI, one brother-in-law, William A. Schunk; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and one great grandson, Samuel Picotte, two brothers, Paul A. Picotte, Thomas E. Picotte and sister, Mercedes Ament.
