Description	:	Alvin Frank Schulte was born at home on July 28, 1924, in Carroll, IA, the youngest of eight children to parents Ben and Theresa (Tegels) Schulte. He grew up near Breda and attended several schools leading up to the 8th grade. He graduated from a country school in Breda in 1938. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Church at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel where he and his family were avid church goers. Read More	Alvin Frank Schulte was born at home on July 28, 1924, in Carroll, IA, the youngest of eight children to parents Ben and Theresa (Tegels) Schulte. He grew up near Breda and attended several schools leading up to the 8th grade. He graduated from a country school in Breda in 1938. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Church at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel where he and his family were avid church goers. Although Alvin came from limited means, he always worked hard to provide for his family. He worked at home until the age of 16 and then went to work for Harold Kelly on the farm. He continued farming throughout his life. He also served the Wall Lake community as a fire fighter for 25 years. Alvin knew about serving his country as he enlisted in the Army from 1944-1946. He served overseas for one year including six months that he served on the front line. He was honorably discharged in February 1946, having earned a purple heart. After returning home he married the love of his life Leona Jennie Mohr on August 31, 1946. They were blessed with two daughters: Barb and Arlene. Alvin and Leona felt fortunate to have enjoyed a loving marriage of 63 years. Some of Alvin’s favorite pastimes included bowling, baseball, football, basketball, and spending time with his family.
