Description	:	Delphos Republican November 15, 1945 Alvin Hardy Garten, son of William and Comfort Garten, was born November 3, 1867, at Princeton, Ind., and passed away in the Mooreland, Okla., hospital November 6, 1945, at the age of 78 years and three days. When he was ten years of age he and his parents moved to Bennington, Kansas. The Gartens continued to make their home there until 1906 when they moved to Comanche County, settling on an 800 acre ranch in Avilla township. Read More	Delphos Republican November 15, 1945 Alvin Hardy Garten, son of William and Comfort Garten, was born November 3, 1867, at Princeton, Ind., and passed away in the Mooreland, Okla., hospital November 6, 1945, at the age of 78 years and three days. When he was ten years of age he and his parents moved to Bennington, Kansas. The Gartens continued to make their home there until 1906 when they moved to Comanche County, settling on an 800 acre ranch in Avilla township. Hardy continued to make his home there until 1927 when he made his home with his brother, John W. Garten, and family, residing there until his death. He had been receiving hospital treatment since last March. Mr. Garten had been a faithful member of Lodge No. 295, A.F. & A.M., more than 30 years and was also a member of the Modern Woodmen and Knights of Pythias lodges, being in the latter lodge 53 years. When he was a youth he became a member of the Methodist Church. He was upright in all his dealings, was a kind and thoughtful son and brother and as a helpful neighbor. To know him was to be his friend. Mr. Garten is survived by three brothers and two sisters - John W. Garten of Coldwater, Oscar and Reed Garten of Plains, Kans., Mrs. Ada Klippert of Cabazon, Calif., and Mrs. Maude Smith of Delphos, Kans., also by a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. He was brought to Bennington where graveside services were conducted by the Masons Friday afternoon, November 9, at 2:30 o'clock.
