Description	:	Alvin J. Lien, 92, of Yankton, passed into eternal life Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at the Yankton Care Center. Alvin was born March 19, 1914 on the Lien homestead in rural Volin, SD to John and Annie (Gorsett) Lien. He graduated from Volin High School and joined the Army in 1941 and served during WWII as a medic, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was an active member of Faith United Church,... Read More	Alvin J. Lien, 92, of Yankton, passed into eternal life Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at the Yankton Care Center. Alvin was born March 19, 1914 on the Lien homestead in rural Volin, SD to John and Annie (Gorsett) Lien. He graduated from Volin High School and joined the Army in 1941 and served during WWII as a medic, and was honorably discharged in 1945. Alvin married Alfreda Jacobson on November 25, 1945 and they made there home on the Lien Century farm in Rural Volin, where they lived, worked, and raised there five children. He was an active member of Faith United Church, the Volin American Legion and the Volin Community Club. The center of Alvin's life was his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and his large circle of friends. He will always be remembered for his quiet, caring and compassionate nature. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Alfreda of Yankton, SD, and four daughters; Linda (Ed) Shepherd of Des Moines, IA, Janet (Jerry) Melick of Yankton, Jane (Tom) Maurer of Madison, SD, and Audrey (Keith) Skrondahl of Pierre, SD and a daughter in law Lisa Lien of Sioux Falls, SD. His memory will also be cherished by his ten grandchildren; Jill, Beth, Bryan, Katie, Kyle, Alicia, Aaron, Kent, Allison and Kariann, and his two great grandchildren Tayson and Bryn. He was preceded in death by his son Gregg in 1988. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, November 3 at the Faith United Church rural Volin, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, November 2 from 5-7 pm with the family present at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene. Memorials can be directed to the Faith United Church.
