Description	:	Alvin J. Ludens, age 71, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at a care center in Watertown. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014, at the Presbyterian Church in Watertown. Rev. Richard Poppen will officiate. Music will be provided by A. J. Sherrill as organist with LeeAnn Maag as soloist. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Alvin's grandchildren and great-grandchildren and members of the Masonic Lodge and the Golden Age Club. Memorials may be directed to the Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star Projects or Prairie Lakes Hospice. Alvin was born on February 26, 1943, at Webster, SD, to Peter J. and Nellie (DeHaan) Ludens. He graduated in 1962 from Augustana Academy High School in Canton, SD. He then attended the College of Automation in Des Moines, IA, working on computers. On October 7, 1964, Alvin married Donna Hull at Des Moines, IA. He continued to work in Des Moines for one year before moving back to the Geddes, SD, area to farm with his dad. He joined the National Guard, where he was a member for fifteen years. In 1973, the couple moved to Platte, SD, and then to Texas where Alvin worked for John Deere as a truck driver. Alvin and Donna eventually moved back to Geddes. Alvin drove truck and worked again with his dad until his retirement. They moved to Watertown in 1993. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Golden Age Club, the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Alvin enjoyed reading and ringing bells for the Salvation Army. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Alvin is survived by his wife, Donna; three daughters: Amy (Darrin) Hofmeister of Watertown, Deborah (Charles) Gabler of Webster and Margaret (Dave) Dietz of Bessimer, MI; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, James (Eileen) Ludens, of Geddes. He was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Paul Ludens; his parents; one sister Clarice Wilcox; and one niece, Collette.
