Overturning automobiles took the lives of two Spartanburg County, SC men, on Sunday, Dec. 14, 1952. Another man was critically injured in a third accident. Killed were Alvin L Fallaw, 54, of Glendale, SC and George A. Harris, 36, of Gaffney, SC. Charles Brockman, 29, of Reidville, SC was injured in a collision on the Woodruff-Greer Highway. Mr. Fallaw was killed in Fairfield County, SC, near Carlisle, SC, when the car in which he was riding went out of control shortly before noon. George Logan Ingle, 43, of Pacolet Mills, SC received back injuries in the wreck. He was in fair condition on Sunday night, Dec. 14, 1952 at Spartanburg General Hospital. Mr. Harris' car apparently overturned when he tried to avoid hitting a dog on Highway 501, a mile and a half out of Gaffney, SC. He was crushed beneath the car, State Highway Patrolman E. F. Son, said. Mr. Harris' brother, Joe, was in the 1950 Ford but was not injured. The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Cherokee Coroner Jack E. Millwood said the death was being investigated but no inquest was planned. Occupants of the other car in the collision with Mr. Brockman's ran from the scene. State Highway Patrolman Charlie Alverson reported. A 30 year old man was arrested later. Mr. Brockman was traveling toward Woodruff shortly after 7 p.m. when the other car drove from a filling station into the road, the patrolman said. Mr. Brockman's 1951 Chevrolet was demolished. The other vehicle, a 1940 Ford, was damaged $300 to $400 Mr. Alverson said. The wreck victim was taken to Workman Memorial Hospital in Woodruff, SC. Mr. Fallaw was a native of Swansea, SC and the son of Mrs. Martha Mack Fallaw and the late Melton M. Fallaw. He was a textile worker at Glendale, SC and member of the Antioch Baptist Church at Swansea. Survivors included: his wife, Mrs. Margie R. Fallaw of Glendale, SC; five daughters, Mrs. Joe Gilkey of Elkhart, Indiana, Mrs. Dan Wood of Spartanburg, SC, Miss Fay Fallaw, nurse at Veterans Hospital in Columbia, SC, Mrs. Neal Thompson of Spartanburg, SC, and Miss Lind Fallaw of Glendale, SC; one son, N. M. Fallaw of the U. S. Navy in San Diego California; his mother Mrs. Martha Fallaw; four sisters, Mrs.Myrtle Lucas of Swansea, Mrs. Carrie Bell Lucas of West Columbia, SC, Mrs. Lila Turner of East Chicago, Indiana; four brothers, Hammrick M., Manning and Everette Fallaw of Columbia, SC and Ira Fallaw of Lexington, SC; and six grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by J. F. Floyd Morturary. Mr. Harris was a veteran of World War II. He served with the 82nd Airborne Division and was a prisoner of war in Germany eight months. He was avoerseas two years. He was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County, SC and an employee of Limestone Manufacturing Company. Survivors included: his wife, Mrs. Mary Carroll Harris; two daughters, Ieona and Elaine; a son, George, Jr.; his father, Joseph; and his brother. Funeral arranngements will be announced by Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
