Formerly of Columbia City, he was a self-employed contractor for 45 years and was superintendent at the Meadowbrook Manor nursing home for 18 years, retiring in 1992. He was preceded in death by his first wife Esther B. (Blanchard) Coyle. He is survived by his wife, Violet; three sons, Kay L. Coyle and Kent Coyle, both of Columbia City, and Conan "Moose" Meyers of Butler; seven daughters, Carol Cole and Karen Brown, both of Columbia City, Diane Steury and Linda Fritz, both of Fort Wayne, Kathy Swick of Zanesville, Kheila Kirwin of Las Vegas, Nevada and Sandra Guenin of Urbana, Ohio. He is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Alvin had been a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since March of 1955. He showed his Christian faith through his loving and helpful manner. He was a loving and much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather as well as a friend to many. In his quiet way, he served many through his work in the contracting business as well as through his work at the nursing home. He also served faithfully as the church building manager and a member of the church building committee for the past several years. His wise council and constant support were much appreciated. He offered a witness of his faith in God and Christ through his steadfast presence and diligence. Alvin loved nature, God's creation, especially the lakes and streams where he enjoyed fishing. His cottage at the lake provided many hours of fishing, boating and communing with God through the beauty of His creation. Alvin's funeral service was held on November 29, 1996 in Columbia City with Elders Allen and Alycia Smith officiating.
