Description	:	Alvin R. Dreiling Alvin R. Dreiling, 95, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Hays Good Samaritan Center. He was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Victoria, Kansas, to Nick and Anna Dreiling. He married Eleanor Luea in Ellis, Kansas, in 1943. He served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 1st Cavalry Division. He received the Bronze Star for valor during the Pacific campaign. Read More	Alvin R. Dreiling Alvin R. Dreiling, 95, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Hays Good Samaritan Center. He was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Victoria, Kansas, to Nick and Anna Dreiling. He married Eleanor Luea in Ellis, Kansas, in 1943. He served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 1st Cavalry Division. He received the Bronze Star for valor during the Pacific campaign. After the War, he accepted a position at the Ellsworth Co-op. Later he accepted a position with the Farmers' Union Jobbing Association, eventually becoming a grain merchandiser on the Kansas City Board of Trade. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Hays American Legion, the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council #1325, and the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Shea and husband, Pat, Nashville, Judy Cleghorn, Nashville; one son, Gene Dreiling and wife, Lorey, Hays; one sister, Ida Forristal, Lindsborg; one brother, Alfred Dreiling, Hays; four grandchildren, Melissa and Glenn Gillen, Durham, North Carolina, Jennifer Masat, Raleigh, North Carolina, Em Dreiling, Greeley, Colorado, and Jake Dreiling, Denver, Colorado; and one great-grandchild, Audrey Gillen, Durham, North Carolina. Mr. Dreiling was preceded in death by his wife. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays. Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW and American Legion will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Ellis, Kansas. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5:30 until 7:00 pm and on Wednesday from 9:00 am until 9:45, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A parish vigil service will be at 6:00 pm followed by a combined third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 pm, both on Tuesday at the funeral home.
