Read More	Alvin Raynor Pence, 92, of 262 Wood St., Westernport, passed away Monday, May 31, 2010, at Moran Manor Health Care Center, Westernport. Born March 2, 1918, in Westernport, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Miller) Pence. His wife, Edith (Moyer) Pence; one brother, Howard Pence; and two sisters, Evelyn F. Miller and Mary Lee Fornoff, also preceded him in death. Mr. Pence was a 1936 graduate of Bruce High School. He was a United States Marine Corp veteran, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Westvaco Corp, as a supervisor in Machine Coating, having 43 years of service. Mr. Pence was a member and former trustee of Westernport Church of the Brethren. He was a long time member of Tri-Towns Lions Club where he held various offices over the years and was awarded the Lion of the Year in 1998, and a 60 plus year member of Hiram Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M. He was a former commissioner on the Westernport Town Council with 18 years of service. As a member of the Westernport Planning Commission, he was instrumental in bringing about the Westernport Pool, Moran Manor Nursing Home, Grand View Apartments and Hammond Heights Apartments. Alvin was also an avid golfer, having played until the age of 90, and while a member of Polish Pines Golf Club was credited for a hole in one on June 4, 1991. He leaves behind a daughter, Amanda Sue Pence of Baltimore; and a nephew, Bob Pence of Westernport. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. The Hiram Lodge will hold a memorial service on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home Chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Diane May and the Rev. William Shimer officiating. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Westernport Church of the Brethren, Oakview Drive, Westernport, MD 21562 or Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland, PO Box 983, Waldorf, MD 20604.
