Alvin was born July 18, 1926, the son of Carl and Hedwig (Melchert) Brase in rural Plainfield. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church-Western Douglas. He attended Maple Grove School, Plainfield High School and graduated from Waverly High School in 1945. Read More	Alvin Werner Brase, 83, of Plainfield, Iowa, died Friday, September 11, 2009, at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa. Alvin was born July 18, 1926, the son of Carl and Hedwig (Melchert) Brase in rural Plainfield. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church-Western Douglas. He attended Maple Grove School, Plainfield High School and graduated from Waverly High School in 1945. On March 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Ann Reuscher at St. John Lutheran Church-Western Douglas. Alvin farmed in the Plainfield area and was self-employed in plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning. Alvin taught plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmer for 13 years. Alvin was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church-Western Douglas. Church was very important to him as was his daily work. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He is survived by his wife Rosalie of Plainfield, four sons; Mark (Jeannie) Brase of Clive, Iowa, Dean (Deb) Brase of Fairbank, Iowa, Bruce Brase of Austin, Texas, and Ross (Peggy) Brase of Waverly, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brother Alfred (Carrol) Brase of Waterloo, sister Irma Mattke of Waverly. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Rev. Gerhard Brase and Herbert Brase, and one great grandchild. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Church-Western Douglas with Rev. Kim Thacker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2009, at the Funeral Home in Waverly and for one hour prior to service time at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice
