Description	:	Alvina Jennie (Buss) Helps, 96, a life long resident of the Klemme area, died on Saturday, October 11, 2003, at the Belmond Health Care Center where she had resided the past four years. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 14, at the Klemme United Methodist Church, with Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery near Klemme. Music was provided by Madelyn Priebe, organist and Steve Schmidt, soloist. Ushers were Duane Pringnitz and Arlyn Waddingham. Alvina was born on July 25, 1907 on a farm east of Klemme, the daughter of Elko and Jennie (Harberts) Buss. She graduated from the Garner High School. She taught rural school in Avery Township for several years. On April 14, 1933, she married Dwight H. Helps at Klemme. The couple farmed and raised their family east of Klemme. Following retirement in 1980, they moved into Klemme. In addition to farming with her husband, Alvina was a life-long homemaker. Favorite pastimes included sewing, quilting and doing handiwork. She did tailoring and mending of clothing for her family. Alvina enjoyed music and had played the piano in earlier years. She was very much a family person who loved children and cherished any activity that included them. Alvina was an excellent cook and baker. She will be remembered by her family for her wonderful pies, cookies and cream filled cupcakes. She liked flowers and raising a garden. She was a member of the Klemme United Methodist Church and a charter member of the women's society. She and her husband wintered in Texas. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; son, Stanley; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Krabbe; brothers, Rank, Harry and Edgar Buss; sisters, Hazel Johnson and Gail Becker; and infant brothers, Franklin and Francis. Survivors are daughters, Eunice (Lowell) Broer of New Providence and Jo Ann (Russell) VerHelst of Klemme; son, Raymond (Esther) Buss of Klemme; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Winnie Buss and Dorothy Pringnitz. ©Belmond Independent 2003 Transcribed by: Find A Grave contributor K Markwardt-Blakewell
