Mrs. Charles HILDEBRAND, who met instant death at Lockridge last Tuesday morning, was born in Jefferson County, Iowa, Apr 10 1855, and grew to womanhood in this vicinity, and was later married to Mr. C.F. HILDEBRAND. They were blessed with nine children, all of whom are living.... She leaves, aside from her husband and nine children, one brother, two sisters, and scores of friends... She was a member of the German Lutheran church of this place... The funeral took place Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. P.H. Dornseif, of Wilton, Iowa, in the German language, and Rev. C. Dryer of Iowa City in the English language, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery west of this place. ------------- The burial whereabouts of Charles F. Hildebrand is not explicitly found by this contributor. Reportedly died on May 25, 1935 and buried somewhere in Inglewood, California. Any cemetery location for him would be appreciated so that spouse and children links could be made. The following story about Charles and Amalia/Amelia is found in an Ancestry tree entry by Georgia LaRue on Dec. 30, 2008. It is provided here to give additional family information to anyone researching this family. It is presented 'as is', but not all the details are verified by this contributor: "Charles Frederick went by the nickname of "Carl", he came to America at the age of 20. Carl was sponsored by his uncle John G. Langner, for whom he worked and lived with according to the 1880 Jefferson Co., Iowa census. At the age of 26 Charles married Amelia Graf. They were married at her parent's home in Four Corners, Iowa on 23 February 1881. Amelia was born 10 July 1855 somewhere in the state of Iowa to Henri Graf (sic) and Anna Barbara Bogner. Charles and Amelia owned 20 acres of farm ground in and around Four Corners. They eventually sold the land to Charles's father, Sigesmund, in 1886 for $600. Then in March of 1896 Charles bought it back from Anton Zillman for $800. It is said that he lived next to the land. In the mean time they bought the 20 acres next to them in March of 1901 and sold the original 20 acres back to Anton Zillman. I have not figured out the meaning of all this selling of the land, especially the same piece of land. Charles also raised and sold Arabian horses with his market extending to overseas. Charles and Amelia had nine children born to them. It is believed that they were all born in or around Four Corners. On 15 March 1904 Amelia was killed in an accident with a train. Amelia was taking water to her son, William C. Hildebrand, before he left on a run. She is buried at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Four Corners. After Amelia's death Charles remarried, however, the marriage didn't last long. Charles was considered a very wealthy man and the woman he married cleaned him out and left him penniless."
