He came to United States in the spring of 1885. He worked on a government steamboat on the Missouri River the first summer he was here. He settled in Oliver County in the fall of 1895, and filed on a Homestead in the Fort Clark area. Amanda Christina Nord was born in Smoland, Sweden on January 13, 1871. She came to the United States December 15, 1894, and lived in Arlington, Minnesota, where she was employed. She came to Oliver County, North Dakota, in January 1896, and was married to John Anderson January 29, 1896. They lived in a two - room log house which John had built on his claim South of Fort Clark. The children were born to this union - five girls and three boys: Mary and Frank (twins), Mabel, Odelia (Delia), Ralph (Ted), Regina (Gene), Ruby, and another son whose name we do not know. John Sheep and cattle for the Lantermans, (Mandan bankers), until he and Amanda built up a small herd of cattle of their own. They made many improvements on their farmstead through the years, built a nine-room house, large barn, planted many trees, including a variety of fruit trees, and kept everything in excellent condition. The Hult, North Dakota, post office was operated from their farm home. Mr. John Anderson was commissioned postmaster of Hult February 26, 1904. It was closed June 15, 1910, when a post office was established at Fort Clark. John helped organize a Farmer's Cooperative at Fort Clark, and he was Sec. - Treas. of it. They had a warehouse in Fort Clark with the things they ordered in large quantities could be stored until their members could haul the items they ordered. The children attended grade school in Nebo School District. The first school they attended was 4 miles from their home. A second school was built East of their home, in Nebo District, but was called, "The Fort Clark School" by the people in the community. Those who attended school after graduating from the eighth grade, attended Mandan High School. As of 1984, Mrs. Riner (Mabel) Wassenaar is the only member of the family living. She lives in South New Berlin, New York.
