Description	:	Amanda Cox was born in Logan County, Ohio, February 2, 1845, and died at her home in Fairmont, Neb., Sunday, April 22, 1917. About the year 1856, she moved with her parents from Ohio to Illinois. On August 25, 1860, she was married to James Houchin, who enlisted in the 33rd Illinois Infantry and served his country for nearly three years, when he returned home sick. Read More	Amanda Cox was born in Logan County, Ohio, February 2, 1845, and died at her home in Fairmont, Neb., Sunday, April 22, 1917. About the year 1856, she moved with her parents from Ohio to Illinois. On August 25, 1860, she was married to James Houchin, who enlisted in the 33rd Illinois Infantry and served his country for nearly three years, when he returned home sick. He never regained his health and died soon after his return home. August 23, 1866, Mrs. Houchin was united in marriage to J. R. McCashland, who survives her. Mrs. McCashland was the mother of seven children, two of whom died in infancy. A son, Sammy, died in 1875 and a daughter Anna Belle Ellis, 26 years old died July 14, 1908. Three children survive Mrs. McCashland, Mrs. Charles Perkins and C. E. McCashland of Fairmont and Mrs. William Walworth of Lincoln, Neb. In October 1870, Mr. and Mrs. McCashland, with their two children moved from Livinston County, Illinois, to Fillmore County, Nebraska, and settled on a homestead three miles northwest of Fairmont, where they resided until twelve years ago. They then moved to Fairmont, where they resided until twelve years ago. They then moved to Fairmont, which place they have since made their home. Mr. and Mrs. McCashland united with the Fairmont Methodist Church at the time the church was organized, in the spring of 1871. They have always been active in Christian work and were constant attendants at church services until failing health confined them at home. Sunday morning April 15, Mrs. McCashland suffered a paralytic stroke and the following Sunday, April 22, she departed this life, ripe in years and leaving a record of good deeds. Friends were very thoughtful and kind during this sudden and deep sorrow and this is greatly appreciated by Mr. McCashland and family. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist Church, Rev. Mr. Yost of that church conducting the service. The subject of the discourse was, "The Death of the Righteous," taken from the scripture text, Numbers 23:10. The out of town members of the family present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. B. C. McCashland and sons, Clyde and Charlie of Geneva; William W. McCashland of Fairfield, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Walworth of Lincoln; Lloyd Longnecker of Walnut, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Cox and daughter Vida of Defiance, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Love and daughter Mildred of Grafton; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Ellis and daughter Vera of McCool. Also Mrs. Kurtz and Mrs. Capple, friends of the family, from Lincoln.
