"Amanda Elizabeth Juel Hansen, the daughter of Jes N. and Annie Nelson Juel, was born Jan. 11, 1915, at her parents' home in Greeley Township, Audubon County, and died Aug. 16, 2003, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon. "Amanda was baptized and confirmed in the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin. She attended rural school in Greeley Township, No.3 and Audubon High School, graduating with the High School Class of 1934, then was employed as a housekeeper for several families in Audubon. "On Aug. 27, 1939, she was united in marriage to Stanley C. Hansen at her parents' home in Greeley Township, Audubon County. Five children were born to this union: Gladys, Emmert, Robert, Allan, and Marilyn. They lived on a farm 2 miles west of Brayton, for 5 years, then bought a farm 10 miles southeast of Exira in 1944 where they lived for 35 years. In 1979, they semi-retired and moved to an acreage 4 miles northwest of Audubon. They lived there for 9 years and then moved to Exira, to a new home they had built in 1989, where they lived until they moved to the Exira Care Center in January of 2001. Stanley died April 12, 2002. Amanda was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church. "Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her parents, an infant granddaughter, a sister, Marie Blohm and her husband , Harvey Blohm and a sister-in-law, Norma Juel. "She is survived by 2 daughters: Gladys Gray and her husband, Jack of Commerce, TX; and Marilyn Roof and her husband, Dennis of Omaha, NE; 3 sons: Emmert Hansen and his wife, Carol of Blue Springs, MO; Robert Hansen and his wife, Judi of Exira; and Allan Hansen and his wife, Kathy of Ankeny; her grandchildren: Kristin Breazeal and husband, Jon of Dallas, TX; Kathryn Scott and husband, Jason of Mesquite, TX; Darci Warren and husband, Kerry of Wildwood, MO; Richard Hansen and wife Cathy of Leavenworth, KS; Andrew Hansen and wife, Kelli of Columbia, MO; Laura Roof of Omaha; Steven Hansen and wife, Jennifer of Indianola; Scott Hansen and special friend, Judy Millington of Nixa, MO; Bradley Hansen and wife, Jocelyn of Silver Spring, MD; Greg Hansen and wife, Brigette of Ankeny; Amy Hansen of Ankeny; Todd Hansen and wife, Rachel of Mason City; 6 great-grandchildren, her brother, Niels Juel and wife, Wilma of Audubon; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Priestly and husband, Charles of Panora; her brother-in-law, Dallas Hansen and wife, Polly of Loveland, CO; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends."
