Description	:	Obituary Mrs. Amanda Foster Mrs. Amanda Foster passed away Thursday morning June 18, 1908 at her home near Valhalla, Missouri. With her passing closed a most remarkable career, she had lived in the St. Clair County for seventy years. Mr. Foster was born in Miami County, Ohio on January 18, 1829 & came to the Tally's Bend in St. Clair in 1839 at the age of ten years. Read More	Obituary Mrs. Amanda Foster Mrs. Amanda Foster passed away Thursday morning June 18, 1908 at her home near Valhalla, Missouri. With her passing closed a most remarkable career, she had lived in the St. Clair County for seventy years. Mr. Foster was born in Miami County, Ohio on January 18, 1829 & came to the Tally's Bend in St. Clair in 1839 at the age of ten years. She was the oldest of a family of eight children, three boys & five girls which survive her. Mrs. Hannah Park now living near Chloe, Missouri. She was married to George Tally in 1844. To this union was born seven children: John E; Thomas T; John F; William L; George A; Sallie C; & Nancy H. Five are still living. Mr. George Tally passed away in the 1862 while servering in the Army at Peach Orchard Gap, Arkansas. In 1864 Mrs. Tally (Kincade) married James Foster, a widower with eight children. To this union was born three children: Mary E; Gilford P; & Hiram G. two are still living. In addition to these Mrs. Foster raised & partly raised ten orphan children, one of these being Rev. J. F. McClain now living in Waurika, Oklahoma. Thus she Ministered as a mother to twenty-eight children, she also had sixty-seven Grandchildren & thirty four Great Grandchildren. For the last forty years " Aunt Manda Foster" as she was familiarly called, heard the first cries & Ministered to the first wants of nine-tenths of the children in her neighborhood. In any & all sickness she was a Ministering Angel to the afflicted. It truly can be said of her, " She Hath Done What She Could". Truly, she added to the sum of human happiness, & if everyone for whom she did some loving service brings a single blossom to her grave, she would sleep beneath a wilderness of flowers. Ms. Foster was united with the Baptist Church in 1844 & lived a devoted Christian life. Mrs. Foster was interred in Wrights Creek Cemetery Friday June 19, 1908. ***Condensed Obituary *** Amanda Kincade Foster - First wife of George Washington Tally - his grave is unknown - he died in Arkansas during the Civil War - George and Amanda had 7 children before he left for the war - among her sons are George Alexander Tally (memorial #62147498) - Amanda was an interesting and a strong lady. I even have a Civil War story about her experience with bushwackers that has come down thru the family - she was born in Cincinnati, Ohio - 2nd husband: James M.
