The bearers, nephews of the deceased, were Carl Ray, Clayton Ray, Bryant Ray, Paul Sherry, Ray Hoover and Walter Williams. Burial was made in the Brick church cemetery. OBITUARY Amanda, daughter of John and Mary A. Funk, was born about two miles northeast of Hagerstown, Ind., September 11, 1865, and departed this life May 22, 1917, aged 51 years, 8 months and 11 days. With the exception of about 18 months she spent her entire life in the same community. December 22, 1887, she was married to Lawrence Sherry, to whom she proved a faithful companion. To this union were born one son and one daughter, both of whom are living, and are Earnest F. Sherry of Newcastle, and Mrs. Russell Burgess of Hagerstown. Soon after their marriage she, with her husband began their home in Henry county, near Mi[ll]ville, where they lived about a year and a half. They then moved to Wayne county near her parents. In November, 1907, she, with her husband, united with the Church of the Brethren, receiving the Holy right [sic] of Christian baptism. The church called to the office of deacon, to which they were installed in 1912. She had been failing in health for the last five or six years and last January, not being able to care for her home any longer, she, with her husband, were taken into the home of heir son at Newcastle where they were kindly cared for. She gradually grew worse with the most fatal disease, tuberculosis, when on Monday night she made a sudden change for the worse and gradually grew weaker, passing away about 6 o'clock Tuesday morning. Besides the family she leaves two sisters, Mrs. A. M. Ray of Greensboro, Ind., and Mrs. William Replogle of Hagerstown, Ind., one brother, S. M. Funk of Indianapolis, and other relatives and friends to mourn her departure."
