Helms quietly passed away at her home three miles east of Monroe, Monday morning, February 17th, 1930 at the age of 62 years. She had been a sufferer from diabetes for many years and her death released her tired worn body from great pain. She was a splendid woman, a kind neighbor, a wonderful mother and most of all a deeply devoted wife to Mr. Helms. Mrs. Helms was a daughter of Jonas and the late Mrs. Melissa Hill. She was a faithful member of High Hill church having joined there many years ago. At the age of 21 she was happily married to Chas. F. Helms and to this union eleven children were born. Two daughters, Mesdames Wilma and Virgie Chaney preceding their mother to the grave ten years ago. The surviving children are Mesdames Edwin Hinson and Leander Braswell, and Misses Ila and Annie Helms. The sons are Messrs Boyce, Loyd, Hoyle, Roland and Claude Helms, all of Monroe. Her sisters are Mesdames W. A. Chaney, Sam Hinson, Tom Chaney and Stanley Polk. Her brothers are Messrs Jesse Hill of Salisbury and Frank Hill of Monroe. She is also survived by her aged father Jonas Hill. Funeral services were held at the William-Griffin cemetery Thursday, February 18th. Elder Walter Edwards and Rev. J. D. Harte and Rev. E. C. Snyder having charge. The large number of sorrowing friends and relatives attending and the beautiful tribute of flowers attested to her wonderful lovely life. Active pall bearers were her five sons and a son-in-law Edwin Hinson. Honorary members were Dowd Secrest, Vann Secrest, Code Morgan, Adrian Holbrook, T. C. Lee, M. C. Long, Hoyle McCollum, Jim McCollum, Dr. G. M. Smith, Dr. R. H. Garren, Fred Helms and Jay Helms. Flower bearers were her seven grandchildren. Mrs. Helms will be greatly missed both at home and away for she had many acquaintances and to her was to love her. And to her family we extend our deepest sympathy.
