"OBITUARY. - Amanda Miller was born in Bedford county, Pa., July 24, 1853 and died in Polk county near Maxwell, Iowa, May 13, 1900, aged 46 years, 9 months and 19 days. She was married to M. J. Miller August 23, 1874, in Johnson county, Iowa, two years after their marriage they moved to Polk county, Iowa, where husband and wife shared each others joys and sorrows until she was called home. Truly she was an affectionate wife and a loving mother, always a smile and a cheery word at evening for her husband and a willing helping hand for her children, three boys and one girl living, who with her husband mourn her departure for the heavenly mansions, one girl preceded her to the spirit world the 5th of September, 1895. She united with the United Bretheren church when but a girl but after moving near Mt. Zion, Polk county made her home in the Evangelical church at that place, and the faith in which she died. Only a week before she died she told her husband that her stay here was short, also that when she was praying one night that the Lord would relieve her of her suffering, Jesus himself appeared to her in a vision, she saw him standing at her bedside, and was gathering up his flock and that soon he would come after her. She had no more pain after that, but kept slowly sinking until Sunday evening, May 13, the soul that was racked with pain and suffering almost beyond endurance took its flight to the haven of peaceful rest. Mother, thou art gone to rest; We will not weep for thee; For thou art now, where oft' on earth Thy spirit longed to be. Mother, thou art gone to rest; Thine is an early tomb; But Jesus summoned thee away; Thy Saviour called the home. Mother, thou art gone to rest; Thy toils and cares are o'er; And sorrow pain and suffering, now Shall ne'er distress thee more. Mother, thou art gone to rest; And this shall be our prayer, That when we reach our journey' end, Thy glory we shall share. CARD OF THANKS. There is a sad experience in life; of which we must all partake sooner or later; and consoling friends and neighbors are truly welcome in the home of sickness and death. From the bottom of our hears, we sincerely thank the willing helping hand and appreciate the consoling words of our friends and neighbors who came to our assistance.
