Description	:	Amber was born on a farm near Sanish, ND, on 4 November 1922 to Henry H. and Ingeborg (Larsgaard) Loe. His mother died shortly before he turned five. He lived in the Fargo Children's Home and several foster homes, during his childhood. One of the happiest times of his childhood was when he and his brother, Elgin, lived with Art and Ethel Olson. Read More	Amber was born on a farm near Sanish, ND, on 4 November 1922 to Henry H. and Ingeborg (Larsgaard) Loe. His mother died shortly before he turned five. He lived in the Fargo Children's Home and several foster homes, during his childhood. One of the happiest times of his childhood was when he and his brother, Elgin, lived with Art and Ethel Olson. They were very good to the boys and provided many happy memories. Unfortunately, the Olsons were not able to adopt Amber and Elgin, and the children were sent back to the Children's Home. Amber lived with Ted and Verna Skovgaard, while he was attending Grand Rapids (ND) High School. Verna was particularly kind to him. They shared a love of poetry and literature. Amber met Anna Mae Mangan, when he was working in LaMoure, ND. They were married on 19 June 1946, in Aberdeen, SD, and initially lived in LaMoure. They were the proud parents of six children. Having been orphaned at a young age, a secure, loving family was very special for him. He doted on his children, particularly his daughters. The Loe family home in Michigan was a popular gathering place. Friends and neighbors were always welcome to visit and share a meal with the family. Amber enjoyed a 25 year career with the Farmers Union Coop Oil Company (later became Cenex), starting in LaMoure and accepting progressively more challenging positions as Manager in Tolna, Michigan, and Grand Forks. He received many awards and accolades during his career. Following his retirement, he and Anna moved to a farm near Manvel. He was always very civic minded and generous with his support of community activities as well as individuals and families in need. A man of strong convictions, Amber loved a good debate, especially the ones he had with his brothers and sisters. When his children were young, he would take an opposing side to get them to think and develop good arguments. He liked and frequently quoted classic poetry; his favorite poem was Trees. He had also memorized numerous poems, limericks, and rhymes and often recited them to delight of his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His leisure activities included golfing, traveling, hunting, fishing, gardening, wood working, and in his younger years, canoe/portage trips. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his wife and kids, as well as his extended family. Amber died at Altru Hospital on 27 August 2007, after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was survived by his wife of 61 years, their six children, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several of his siblings. Funeral Service were Friday, 31 August 2007 at Stennes Funeral Home in East Grand Forks, MN.
